Outstanding Young New Yorker Scholarship

Leading the youth of the North Country toward a brighter future by helping to provide access to higher education is a job for the entire community to embrace. As always, the Greater Watertown Jaycees are up to the challenge. We are participating in the 2008 New York State Jaycees' "Outstanding Young New Yorker" scholarship program.

Our 2008 winner will be announced in May and will receive a $500 scholarship from the Watertown Jaycees, with an opportunity to compete at the State Level for even more scholarship funds. The Watertown Jaycees are able to participate in this program due to the support of Watertown Savings Bank, Pine Cleaner, and Wal-Mart of LeRay.

The 2007 Outstanding Young New Yorker (OYNY) Winner was Caitlin Simard from Brantingham, NY, within the South Lewis School District. Caitlin was the recipient of our local $500 Scholarship that we award and receive sponsorship for.

Caitlin competed in the NYS Jaycees OYNY competition in Binghamton, NY and placed 1st in the State for Outstanding Young New Workers. Caitlin truly shined among the competition. For winning first place in the State she will be awarded another $1500 Scholarship from the NYS Jaycees. Caitlin is a fine example of the talented youth in the North Country and we are delighted she is our OYNY winner last year. She was currently her class valedictorian, and involved in several community groups such as Reality Check and volunteered for the local Humane Society.

Thank you to several local business for helping the Watertown Jaycees support this scholarship program in 2007 - Aubertine and Currier, Black River Paper Company, DOHL and Bolton's Pharmacy. We appreciate your help.

Thanks to CFM for being a wonderful sponsor!
